| TABLE TALK | |||
It's a First - No First Thursday Meeting!The First Thursday meeting in January falls on New Year's Day and has therefore been cancelled. As everyone will still be hung over from New Year's Eve, this might be a good thing. The vision of a room full of bleary-eyed writers should give even the hardest of souls pause. So, sharpen that sentence, peer over that paragraph, and modify that manuscript in preparation for our next meeting on the Third Tuesday. Have a Happy Holiday and we'll see you on January 20th.
The Survey is Coming! The Survey is Coming!
We will be emailing the Greenville Chapter survey to all local SCWW members on December 26. Please take a few minutes to fill out this short survey. We all need to pull together and come up with a plan to alleviate the crowded conditions we now face. The more information we have, the better the solution. Change is on the horizon, and we'd like to know your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks!
Book Signing January 24, 2009 in West Columbia, SC
About a dozen SCWW authors whose work appears in the second edition of The Petigru Review will be participating in a book signing on Saturday, January 24, 2009, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Ed's Editions, 406 Meeting Street, West Columbia, SC 29169, (803) 791-8002. Parking space is limited, so please use the overflow lot across the street near the red brick building. We hope to see you there!
Weaving Himself a Bigger Platform...Bob Strother’s short story, "Tellico Plains" has been accepted for inclusion in the April, 2009 issue of Weave Magazine, a literary print publication and organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In Phil's Own WordsPhil Arnold reports: "I recently received an invitation to post ElvisBlog articles on a website called www.collectibles-articles.com. They manage a very thorough Collectibles Articles Directory. They have 1541 articles in 32 categories, but they had only one Elvis story. They decided to boost that and came to me. They are interested in eight or nine of my blog columns that have to do with Elvis goodies. No money, but they say I'll get a nice boost in traffic, because there is a little bio paragraph at the end of every story, with two links to ElvisBlog. I should pick up a bunch of new Elvis fans over time. I sent my first in last Thursday, and it has been accepted."
On-line Workshops for Romance WritersCarolina Romance Writers (CRW), RWA Chapter 70, was founded in 1984 with the purpose of bringing together local published authors and future writers of romance novels, offering support, guidance, and aid in successfully landing a publishing contract and honing our craft. The Carolina Romance Writers® chapter is proud to announce their very affordable Online Workshops. The workshops are conducted via EMAIL only, no real-time or live chats. Workshops are open to everyone with email capability who wishes to participate, not just CRW or RWA® members. Go to www.carolinaromancewriters.com for more information.

| REVIEWS | |||
|
This section of the newsletter is used to present written reviews
of the five-page selections read during the First Thursday meeting. The purpose of these
reviews is to help each writer to improve their work by pointing out what's good
about the work and suggesting how to improve what's not as good as it can be. We have chosen
not to publish these reviews to the general public - they are e-mailed to chapter members only.

| The "Third Tuesday" Report | |||
|
This section of the newsletter serves to summarize the five-page selections read during the Third Tuesday meeting. These short paragraphs are not intended to be reviews. Their purpose is to keep members who could not make it to the meeting aware of the progression of the stories presented so that they will not be lost the next time they come to a meeting. We have chosen not to publish these summaries to the general public - they are e-mailed to chapter members only. |
